Nintendo Switch Becomes France’s Highest-Selling Home Console of All Time

With 7.1 million units sold in the country, the Nintendo Switch has overtaken the Wii to become France's highest-selling home console of all time.

The Nintendo Switch is continuing to smash sales records nearly six years into its life, and has sold a staggering amount in no few major markets. Recently, it hit another major milestone in one of them.

As reported by French outlet BFMTV, Nintendo has announced that the Switch has become the highest-selling home console in France to date. It sold over 987,000 in the country in 2022, taking its total sales up to 7.1 million units. The record was previously held by fellow Nintendo console Wii, which has sold 6.3 million units in France.

The Switch still isn’t the highest-selling gaming system of all time in France- Nintendo’s handheld behemoth, the DS, still sits on top of that pile with 10.6 million units sold in the country.

According to Nintendo France’s general manager Philippe Lavoué, 10.5% of all people in France (which has a population of roughly 67 million) have a Switch. Lavoué also says that thanks to Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet and VioletPokemon had “a historic year” that was “unheard of for a franchise in France.”

As of September 30, the Nintendo Switch has sold 114.33 million units worldwide.
