Nintendo Switch eShop Placed Into Maintenance Mode in Russia, All Payments Suspended

The Nintendo Switch Russian eShop has been put into maintenance mode on account of its payment services not being functional.

The Nintendo Switch eShop in Russia is currently down, and many have reported payments not being processed. A support page on the Nintendo.ru website (spotted by Nintendo Life) confirms this, explaining that its payment service provider isn’t working, which is causing payments to not be processed.

Following the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russia and Belarus, many game companies have come forward and barred the purchases of their products and services in the Russian region. Speculation points towards this being the very reason behind the shutdown of Switch eShop payment services in Russia, but one cannot say that for sure.

Additionally, it isn’t known whether the shutdown of these services – if intentional – is at the behest of Nintendo or a third-party payment service provider for the region.

Microsoft has discontinued all sales of its products in the region, and even Sony has delisted Gran Turismo 7 from the PlayStation Store in the region. EA also announced that it would be shutting down sales of its games and related online-services and virtual currencies in Russia- read more on that through here.
