Why are you talking about 3rd place ? Nintendo have been in 3rd place for quite a while now and it hasn’t done them any harm to them in fact it has given them the push they needed.
1st, 2nd or 3rd makes a difference to the end user in a good way and the lower the better as it pushes them far more than the leading Console.

Take Sony they don’t care if PS4 owners want crossplay all they care about is more Console sales, Sony put the price UP of PS Plus by a Massive £10 MORE than Xbox Live and give Nothing in return, Sony don’t want you to play all your games you already bought in the past for free they want you to pay for them over and over via a rental service loyalty means nothing to them.
You can’t even watch movies in native 4K or swap or sell the disc version on PS4 it doesn’t do 4K movies(or games) but Sony are happy to let you rent low quality drm movies from them. Mug.
