Nintendo Switch Holds On To Lead, And Ghost Recon Wildlands Debuts At Top In Japan

A great showing all around in Japan.

This week’s Media Create sales numbers are now out, and it looks like it’s been a great week all around- Nintendo has managed to hold on to the lead for hardware sales in Japan, in spite of chronic shortages of the Nintendo Switch all around the country. The PS4 has held on to a very respectable second place, with the 3DS in a strong third place.

On the software end, Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands ended up in the top place, with almost 90,000 units sold. It came in ahead of Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 HD, which was second place with 63,000 units sold. The Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold 44,500 units, ahead of Horizon: Zero Dawn, which sold 34,000 units.

While the Switch is likely to be supply constrained for a while to come, it does seem like it will continue to hold on to the lead spot for a while now. With the PS4 and 3DS also performing exceptionally well, it seems like the Japanese gaming market is continuing its slow and steady, but ultimately inevitable, comeback.
