Nintendo’s Switch appears to be a hugely interesting and promising product, that promises a proposition truly unlike anything else on the market- the notion of being able to take your AAA games anywhere with you, at any time. No longer would you be bound to the ‘couch experience’ if you wanted to play your games.
In an interview with GamingBolt, Nick Pettit, of developer Zoxide Games working on Neptune Flux currently, admitted that the Switch looked to be entirely unique, that will probably end up carving out its own niche in the market.
“I think Nintendo’s approach is interesting and it enables a lot of unique opportunities for developers,” he said, speaking about the Switch. “I usually view any challenges as creative opportunities. In other words, what can I accomplish within the constraints of the system that might not be possible given different creative limitations?”
So does something like the Switch have a place on the market, we asked him? Pettit sounded largely positive. “I believe so, yes. Gaming is a huge market, so there’s plenty of room for Nintendo to do their own thing and create something unique.”
These words echo those of Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, who similarly called the Switch interesting recently, and noted that it would probably have its own place in the market, too. Which… sounds about right. With the Switch allowing for a hybrid of console and portability experiences, it will naturally be shooting for a different kind of crowd than something like the PS4 or Xbox One Scorpio might. It will be interesting to see how the system ends up doing in the market in the long run.
