The U.K. has traditionally been a fairly difficult market for Nintendo to crack- in fact, Nintendo has generally never done well there, barring the exception of the Wii and DS. That said, it looks like the Switch is making its mark felt there, too.
According to Christopher Dring, an ex-MCV UK analyst, the Nintendo Switch is outselling the Xbox One in the UK, year to date, as well as launch aligned. This is especially impressive for multiple reasons- the Switch, of course, is hugely launch constrained, and the UK is Xbox’s second strongest territory. Plus, the Xbox One had a Holiday launch, while the Switch has not even had its first Holiday yet- all of this means the Switch’s sales are incredibly impressive in the UK at the moment.
As it stands, however, the Switch is still selling far less than the PS4, which maintains a strong lead in the UK. It makes sense- this year has by far been the best for the PS4 yet, and the UK has traditionally been a Sony stronghold. That said, it is now clear that the Switch is outselling the Xbox in every major territory worldwide- and in many, even outselling the PS4. It is great to see Nintendo managing to bounce back after the dismal failure of the Wii U.
