The Nintendo Switch’s momentum is still going strong. In its recent fiscal year earnings report, the company reported that 52.48 million units of the Switch had been sold worldwide as of December 31st 2019. These are lifetime sales for the console which launched back in March 2017.
The results for the quarter ending December 31st are also pretty good. In those three months, the company managed to sell 10.81 million Switch hardware units. Software sold during that period totaled 64.64 million units thanks especially to high profile titles like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokemon Sword and Shield and even The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (which released near the end of September 2019).
Though Nintendo projected 18 million Switch units sold by March 31st 2020, it’s now revised this total to 19.5 million units. With the next generation of consoles out in holiday 2020, which usually results in declining sales for Xbox and PlayStation, it’s good to see the Switch holding its own.
