Nintendo Switch Was September’s Best-Selling Console in the US Once Again

It continues to be the best-selling console of the year as well.

The NPD Group has released the data for video game software and hardware sales in the United Sales for September of 2019, and to no one’s surprise, the Nintendo Switch was once again the best-selling console in the region for the month, outselling the PS4 and the Xbox One, just as it has been for few months running now.

NPD analyst Mat Piscatella also confirms that the Switch also remains the highest-selling console in the US in terms of year-to-date figures (via GamesBeat). Given the fact that the Switch is in the prime of its life cycle, and the fact that the Xbox One and PS4 are both winding down, with their successors launching late next year, it’s no surprise to see this trend in sales for all three consoles.

Meanwhile, hardware spending in the US during September 2019 was down to $240 million, which is a 22 per cent year-on-year drop. Year-to-date hardware spending is down to $1.9 billion, which is down 21 per cent year-on-year. The Switch remains the only console, both for the month of September and for the entirety of 2019, to see an increase in sales year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the Switch recently crossed 15 million units sold in North America, while not too long ago, Nintendo confirmed that it had sold over 10 million units in Europe.
