Nintendo and the VGAs (or whatever variant they have by the year) have had a bumpy history- Nintendo has historically never been a major part of the events, they have never won many awards there (which are, after all, catered towards traditional western sensibilities), and they usually don’t reveal anything there. In fact, so far, their biggest reveal at VGA was last year, when they revealed… Cranky Kong as a playable character for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
That may be about to change this year- a Nintendo employee, Geoff Keighley, and Nintendo itself are all teasing a major Nintendo announcement at The Game Awards, possibly as a grand finale. Nintendo themselves are livestreaming the event (which they wouldn’t do if they didn’t have something to show), and they have an entire Youtube playlist called ‘The Game Awards,’ implying there is something they are going to show.
Given that this is a western show catered to western sensibilities… what could it be? Metroid? F-Zero? Star Fox? Zelda? A real Pokemon game for Wii U?
We’ll find out in a few hours. Stay tuned.
