Some lucky few people will get the chance to play Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, arguably one of the most anticipated titles of the year, early. Nintendo has confirmed that, much like it did with the Wii U version of the game four years ago, it will be hosting an invitational tournament for the Switch game at E3 this year. It’s reasonable to assume that this will also mean that Smash will be playable on the show floor this year- especially given the game is due out in 2018.
Nintendo has confirmed that Smash won’t be the only game getting a tournament, because it will also be hosting one for Splatoon 2, with qualifiers for that one held ahead of E3 (naturally). Both tournaments will be held on June 11 and June 12.
Splatoon 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch, and has grown and expanded massively from its rather disappointing first showing at launch thanks to a slew of inspired post launch updates. Super Smash Bros on the other hand is due out on Nintendo Switch exclusively some time later this year- presumably timed to launch alongside Nintendo’s online service for Switch.
