E3 2020 is already shaping up to be a very different kind of show from what we’ve come to expect in recent years – it’s a change that’s been underway for a while now, in fact – but this recent development might mean that it’s going to be even more different than we originally thought.
The official E3 website has published its list for the companies that will be participating in E3 2020 come June- notably enough, Nintendo’s list is nowhere to be seen in this list. It’s worth noting that this list isn’t final- it’s just the first batch of companies that have confirmed their attendance so far, and the list will keep getting updated as more give confirmations as well.
Nintendo hasn’t held an E3 press conference in a while, but it’s always present at the actual convention itself, has a full-fledged show floor, and brings plenty of demos for its upcoming games. Though it’s very likely that Nintendo just haven’t given their confirmation so far and will be added to this list as it’s updated, it’s worth pointing out that they’re usually always in the first batch of this list. Them not being in the first batch this year is irregular, if nothing else.
Sony and Microsoft aren’t in the list either. Sony have confirmed that they won’t be attending E3 2020 (just like last year). Microsoft, meanwhile, will be attending, but as always, they’ll be doing everything over at the Microsoft Theatre, not the main E3 venue, which is why they’re not in this list.
Again, remember that this list isn’t final. We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.
