Many have speculated over the last few months that 2020 might see Sony not attending E3 for the second consecutive year. Of late, many reports have emerged that suggested the same, with one as early as earlier today, which stated that Sony would be announcing its not decision to not be at E3 this year very soon- which has turned out to be true.
Sony has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it will not be at E3 this year, with a spokesperson for the company saying that “the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.” Sony, instead, plans, to reveal its plans for the PS4 and the PS5 by attending “hundreds of consumer events across the globe.”
“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020,” said the Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson. “We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.
“We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favourite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”
The most pertinent question in light of this announcement, of course, is how Sony plans on unveiling the PS5 now that an E3 press event won’t be an option. Rumours have suggested that a reveal event is planned for February, but there’s been no official word on that yet. Stay tuned GamingBolt for more updates.
