The NPD figures for the month of January are out, and according to these reports, January saw a decline of 5% in PC games, non PC games, accessories and hardware, going down from grossing $1.22 billion to $1.16 billion.
The hardware market saw the biggest drop, falling 8% to $324 million. The only console know till now to not have seen a decline in sales was the Xbox 360, which, according to Microsoft’s reports, sold a 381,000 units, reporting a 15% year-on-year increase. Neither Nintendo nor Sony have released any figures yet.
However, the accessory sales saw a rise of 6%, going from from $222.8 million to $235.1 million year-over-year. PlayStation Move and Kinect sales were included.
Software sales saw a drop too- they dropped to $603.1 million, going 6% down from $644.9 million last year. Call of Duty: Black Ops was the highest selling game, followed by Just Dance 2, Dead Space 2 and LittleBigPlanet 2.
