Whereas the Oculus Rift itself is expected to be in the range of around $500, there is the consideration of demanding specs- simply put, the Oculus Rift requires a beefy PC, and your rig may not be able to support it. Speaking at the annual Code Conference this week,Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said that the Oculus Rift VR headset will run customers around the $1,500 mark if they purchase a new (decently powerful enough) PC alongside of it. This price, he said, was the ‘all in’ price.
“We are looking at an all-in price, if you have to go out and buy a new computer and you’re going to buy the Rift,” he said via Recode. “At most you should be in that $1,500 range.”
Given that we don’t have an official price for the VR headset yet, this figure should let us come up with a decent range for how much it will cost- and based on your estimates for the price of the PC, it could be anywhere from $500 to $700.
