Oculus Rift Founder Thinks VR Will One Day Be Free For Everyone

'I don't expect everyone to be interested in it today.'

Right now, VR is an expensive technology that requires an even more expensive setup to even utilize. It’s hardcore, cutting edge, and for the technology enthusiast- as far from a mass market product as you can get. But Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus Rift, the company that started the modern VR trend, believes that one day, Oculus Rift will be with every person, in every home, for free.

“I don’t expect everyone to be interested in VR as it is today, which is honestly a pretty expensive, relatively primitive proof of concept compared to where we want it to be, where science-fiction depicts it. But it is inevitable that it will become better,” Luckey said in an interview with Gamespot, pointing out that the technology is bound to improve, and that one day, it will be available to everyone, for free, possibly without the need for the clunky headsets.

Oculus Rift is due to launch next year.
