Oculus VR may have only limited sales of its Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to certain countries worldwide but the company is already facing a shortage in components. As a result, it has suspended production and sales for Rift until alternate materials can be sourced.
Community manager Andres Hernandez updated the world on the same through Reddit. “Certain components used in the Oculus Rift developer kit are no longer being manufactured, meaning they are no longer available to us for production. As a result, we don’t have the necessary materials to produce additional kits.”
“We still have some stock available, but we’re quickly running out. We are looking into alternate sources for the needed components, and we don’t yet have a timeline for when additional units will be available.”
Despite not being as widely available commercially, Oculus VR has already supplied more than 50,000 development kits for Rift worldwide. Many developers like Valve have already begun optimizing their games for the same. Have you have had a chance to try it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
