Oculus Rift “Very Much in Development Stages”, Too Early to Talk Large Shipments

Facebook CFO does believe the VR headset is "long-term growth area" for company though.

Oculus Rift can’t lay claim to being the first commercial VR headset thanks to other efforts like Samsung Gear VR but its acquisition by Facebook did make us think it would be closer to a large-scale retail release than before.

However, in a recent investor call (as reported by Games Industry International), Facebook CFO David Wehner said Oculus is still in a development stage and that it was too early to talk large shipment numbers.

“We have not announced any specific plans for shipment volumes in 2015 related to Oculus. I just know that Oculus is very much in the development stage so it’s early to be talking about large shipment volumes.” Wehner also said that the project presented a “long-term growth area” for Facebook.

While there will probably be games coming for Oculus Rift in 2015, it may still be a while before the actual headset is available on a commercially large stage. Stay tuned for more information though, especially heading into E3.
