Oculus Rift Won’t Be Launching In Several Countries Until 2017

Including Russia, China, Brazil, and India.

Unfortunately, as much as we would want them to be a relic of the psst, staggered global launches are still a thing for most major products. One of these is Oculus Rift- though it became available to pre-order in 20 countries worldwide yesterday, a lot of major markets won’t be getting it until next year.

Countries that will be getting the Rift this year are Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States of America. This leaves out some major markets- Brazil, Russia, India, China, Portugal, and Singapore are some big markets that can expect the product in 2017 at the earliest.

It’s really a bit of a shame, as I imagine a lot of VR fans in these countries are disappointed. Then again, considering that a lot of these countries are developing markets, and that Oculus costs a shocking amount of money, it is probably for the best until costs for the headset can be brought under control somewhat.
