Atlus’ Persona 5 has been an incredible hit since its launch over a year ago. The stylish turn based JRPG won everyone’s hearts when it first released, winning rave acclaim everywhere (it holds a coveted 93 Metascore, and was a prominent Game of the Year nominee and winner through all of last year- a rarity for a JRPG like it), and sales have been uncharacteristically high for it as a result, too.
Atlus has confirmed that Persona 5 has sold 2.2 million copies worldwide since its launch. This makes it the highest selling game in the Persona series (having convincingly overtaken Persona 4, which was the previous record holder, at this point), the highest selling Atlus game of all time, and one of the highest selling JRPGs of the generation.
Given how utterly fantastic the game is, it’s thoroughly well deserved- for once, I don’t think I can say that I never saw it coming.
