Persona 5 continues to rake in the big bucks for Atlus. Just last week, we reported that the game had shipped 550,000 copies in Japan just two weeks after its release, and today, thanks to the latest Media Create numbers, we can report (via Persona Central) that Persona 5 is now the highest selling Atlus game in Japan in the company’s history.
With this week’s Media Create numbers, Persona 5‘s sell through to customers hit 437,929 copies at retail (not counting digital copies)- this makes Persona 5 the highest selling Atlus game in Japan ever since the company was first formed 30 years ago.
For now, Persona 5 shows no signs of slowing down, and it’s avoiding the precipitous drops that are usually associated with JRPG sales. A lot of this may have to do with the strong growth and goodwill the brand has accumulated over the last decade or so, plus the overwhelmingly positive word of mouth around the game. Once it launches in the west, we are sure the game will cross a million units sold worldwide with ease- a fitting milestone for what promises to be the most ambitious Atlus game in history.
