Persona 5 is a fantastic game. It is dripping with style, it has an amazing soundtrack, compelling characters and an arresting story, and it is the pinnacle of the turn based JRPG meets social sim formula that Persona 3 pioneered over a decade ago. In a year when there have been many great games, Persona 5 stands as one of the best (and indeed, it is the second highest rated game of the year on Metacritic).
It seems like readers of Japanese magazine Famitsu agree, because they have voted it in as the greatest RPG of all time. Almost 2,300 votes were counted, and Persona 5 came in on top, with Dragon Quest 3 coming in second.
The Witcher 3 also figures in the list- it is the only western RPG to do so, actually, which is surprising, given Japan’s love for Skyrim– and on the whole, the entire list does skew a bit towards the more recent releases of the past few years. Still, Persona 5 is a fantastic game, and I am glad to see it is receiving all these praise that it deserves.
