Phantasy Star Online 2 Tops 730,000 Registered Users

Sega may be on the low-down these days, but they’re far from down and out. This was evidenced by the announcement of Phantasy Star Online 2, a free to play MMORPG similar in vein to the classic Dreamcast adventures. Only better.

The game’s release has been met with quite a response it seems. Sega has reported more than 730,000 registered users as of July 26. Considering it’s been a bit more than three weeks since it’s release, this is good news indeed.

As of now, the game is available solely in Japan for Windows on PC. It will see release on iOS and Android by the end of this year, with North American and European releases set for early 2013. A PS Vita release is also on the cards in 2013.

Phantasy Star Online marks the series entry into online multiplayer RPGs. After the Dreamcast’s demise, the game found new life and success on the next generation of consoles.
