The PS4 has already seen its first official price drop in Japan and Asia at TGS, which was later confirmed for the UK as well; however, the head of the Xbox division at Microsoft, Phil Spencer, told IGN in a podcast interview that he believes that North America will see a PS4 price drop this year as well.
“I fully expect they [PlayStation] will drop price,” Xbox boss Phil Spencer told IGN. “When I think about the playbook they’ve used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we’ll see a price drop from them coming.”
I mean, it’s not rocket science, especially now that the price drop has been confirmed for the UK as well; that, plus the fact that this is the longest a PlayStation system has ever gone without a price drop, as well as the fact that the PS4 has a very weak lineup of exclusive games in the back half of this year, means that a price drop may be almost necessary for the PS4 to maintain its rate of sales this year.
If/when it is officially announced, we will let you know, so stay tuned.
