That a new Pikmin game is under development is something we had known for while. Initially, we had speculated it would be on Wii U, though Nintendo’s staunch refusal to confirm any platform for the game led to speculation that it may end up on the NX instead.
It turns out all of that speculation was wrong. Pikmin is instead coming to the Nintendo 3DS, marking the franchise’s handheld debut. The 3DS installment will not be like the traditional real time strategy/exploration action adventure the games have been- instead, it seems to be eschewing that for a 2D sidescrolling take on the formula. How well something like that works out remains to be seen- but the Pikmin series has never had a misstep so far, so there is not reason to suspect that it will have one now.
Pikmin will launch on Nintendo 3DS some time in 2017. So far, it does not have a final name announced.
