PlatinumGames Appoints Atsushi Inaba as CEO

Atsushi Inaba, formerly the vice president of the company, has stepped into the role of CEO, with Kenichi Sato stepping down.

PlatinumGames is entering 2022 with a significant change at the very top of its structure. The Japanese developer has announced a change of CEOs, with Kenichi Sato having stepped down from his role (and also as president) as of the end of December 2021, after nearly 6 years of holding those titles.

He’s being replaced by studio head Atsushi Inaba, who was, until recently, vice president at PlatinumGames as well. Sato will stay on at Platinum as an adviser for now, he’s confirmed.

PlatinumGames has a lot of irons in the fire. Babylon’s Fall is due out this March, while Bayonetta 3 is also supposed to launch sometime this year. Meanwhile, Hideki Kamiya is also leading development on Project G.G.

Beyond that, the studio has, in the last couple of years, announced big plans for its future. It established new development studio in early 2020, with the intent of having it focus on the development of live service titles, while the developer has also expressed interest in creating more than just action games, and is also developing new in-house engine.

Self-publishing is also something PlatinumGames continues to focus on– the aforementioned Project G.G. is going to be another step forward into that arena.
