Along with noting the best-selling titles for May 2018 in the United States, The NPD Group’s report for the month also discussed hardware spending. For the year up till that date, the amount spent on hardware rose by 15 percent to $1.3 billion. Xbox One, PS4 and devices like the SNES Classic helped drive growth.
Perhaps more interesting is that hardware unit sales for May 2018 were the highest for that month in history since May 2011. Total dollar sales were the highest for the month in history since May 2014. The PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch each set records for the all-time unit sale highs for the month in history.
However, it was the PS4 that remained the best selling console for May 2018 and is still the best-selling console till date this year. In terms of unit and dollar sales however, the Nintendo Switch 32GB w/Neon Red/Blue JoyCon was the best selling SKU for the month.
It wasn’t all bad for Microsoft though – Xbox One console exclusive State of Decay 2 was the top-selling game for the month. To learn more about the group’s report for May 2018, check out NPD analyst Mat Piscatella’s video below.
