PlayStation 5 Will Be Unveiled Next Year

Sony's Sam Parker confirmed the same in a recent tweet.

Sony recently confirmed that the PlayStation 5 would be launching in Holiday 2020. Along with discussing new features, like modular game installs and haptic feedback in the new controller, it confirmed hardware-based ray tracing. But when we expect the console’s reveal? It won’t be this year, that’s for sure.

According to a recent tweet from Sam Parker, who is an IT Specialist for Dev Ops at Sony, the PS5 will be unveiled next year. So while that snuffs out any chance of a PlayStation Meeting in December, it lends further credence to rumours of the reveal event taking place in February 2020. Note that Parker didn’t mention anything explicitly about the console’s design or price being announced.

Though Sony unveiled a number of hardware specs, like the fact that the PS5 utilizes an eight core AMD Zen 2 CPU, there are few things it’s still figuring out. Backwards compatibility is one as the company is working to ensure “100 percent” support for PS4 games. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime – we’ve got a long wait ahead.
