PlayStation Now Beta Update Divulges Pricing Details

Uh-oh.

One thing that has been kept under wraps regarding Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Now service has been the pricing- we know that the service will be a streaming service, but will it be subscription based? Can we buy individual games? Is it more of a rental thing? Questions regarding PS Now’s price have been up in the air for a while now, although the newest beta update may just have answered all of them.

PS4 Daily reports that games will be rentals, that can start for as low as $2.99, and go up as high as $29.99. It also says that rental periods can range anywhere from 4 hours to 90 days; the pricing seems to be completely misguided, as Saints Row, for instance, a game that is nearly eight years old, can be rented for 4 hours for $4.99, or for 90 days for $29.99. Why wouldn’t you just buy the game at that point, then?

Hopefully, these are just placeholder prices, because if they are not, if they are indicative of the final pricing model for the service, then Sony killed PS Now before it even had a chance to take off.
