PlayStation Now Will Need a 5mbps Connection

For a 'good experience.'

PlayStation Now, Sony’s streaming service that allows users on current PlayStation devices and Bravia TV (for now, with a scope for expansion to other devices in the future) to stream classic PlayStation games, will be launching in North America by the end of summer.

Sony is recommending that users have at least a connection of 5mbps if they want to have an ‘enjoyable experience,’ which I guess is PR speak for ‘less than 5mbps will have noticeable lag.’

It’s not an unreasonable speed requirement at all, at least not in the US, where any household that is likely to use this feature already games online extensively, and thus probably has a connection much faster than this minimum threshold. It will however be interesting to see how Sony’s own servers handle the load.

PlayStation Now will eventually allow users to stream PS, PS2, and PS3 games on PS3 (I don’t really understand this one…), PS4, and PS Vita. Stay tuned for more information.
