PlayStation Plus Subscriptions Triple Since Launch of PS4

Sony UK MD Fergal Gara confirms.

During the announcement of the PS Vita 2000 heading to the UK on February 7th, Sony UK MD Fergal Gara revealed that PlayStation Plus subscriptions tripled since the launch of the PS4.

There are several reasons for this besides the obvious bonus of free games and goodies (as indicated by the February PlayStation Plus selection which includes titles like Metro: Last Light and PayDay 2 on PS3 with Outlast on the PS4). Sony mandated that all users would need PlayStation Plus in order to access multiplayer on the PlayStation 4.

Considering the deluge of multiplayer based games since the console’s release – including Killzone: Shadow Fall, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 – it only makes sense that there would be a higher uptake of PS4 subscriptions. It’s for a good cause though since it allows Sony to sell the console for cheap without incurring any major loss.
