PlayStation Teases Big PocketStation Announcement For November

A return of the PocketStation

According to PlayStation, we can expect to hear a “big announcement” regarding PocksetStation this coming November. PocketStation, for those of you who either don’t remember or weren’t living in Japan in 1999, was essentially a memory card with a screen – essentially we’re talking about a memory card that has the functionality to allow the user to view the various save data and switch slots and/or delete data at their discretion.

In terms of what this new take on the PocketStation will be, despite the 4 minute teaser video, we’re still, at this point, left to the imagination. The video is entirely in Japanese, and even with a translation, there are few details revealed that provide any insight. So, let’s resort to conjecture.

If PocketStation wants to stick with the concept of pocket sized memory management, it seems that the smartest utilization of the concept would be to apply it to a mobile platform in the form of an app. Take a second to think about that – we are talking about on the go memory management of your – in the most likely case – PlayStation 4. Check your trophy data, delete saves you aren’t happy with to free up space, maybe even delete entire games from your hard drives. The concept presents some exciting possibilities to say the least.
