Long ago, video game pack ins used to be a thing- these pack ins would be a game that was bundled with a game console or handheld, so that a player could take the system home, and immediately start using it. Over time, bundled games died out, although they have made a resurgence of late, on the back of Nintendo’s successful strategy of packing in Wii Sports with the Wii.
But for a while there, when pack ins died out, what took their place were demo discs- these discs would typically contain short playable previews of upcoming games that players could try out right away, and then buy later on when they had the money. Over time, demos themselves died, and demo discs were replaced by pack ins (again), so we haven’t seen nor heard from one of those for a while.
That, however, will change with the upcoming PlayStation VR- Sony have announced that PlayStation VR will come with a demo disc that includes eight bits of software for players to play and familiarize themselves with. This mostly seems to include some top of the line stuff, so as far as first impressions go, this demo disc should certainly help.
Between this disc, and the bundled PlayRoom VR, Sony really will be ensuring VR players have enough content to mess around with right away, as soon as they purchase their system. The full list of the games on the demo disc is below:
- DRIVECLUB VR – Evolution Studios
- PlayStation VR Worlds – LONDON STUDIO
- RIGS Mechanized Combat League – Guerrilla Games
- Tumble VR – Supermassive Games
- Battlezone – Rebellion
- EVE: Valkyrie – CCP
- Wayward Sky – Uber Entertainment
- Headmaster – Frame Interactive
