PlayStation Vue Will Be Shut Down January 30 2020, Confirms Sony

The live TV service will end at the beginning of next year.

Sony has often used their PlayStation brand to trojan horse in various other media endevours. Sometimes it’s been a rousing success such as DVD with the PS2 and Blu-ray with the PS3. Other times it’s been a bit of a flop, such as the PSP and UMD. It seems that PlayStation Vue will fall into the latter category as the company confirmed they will be shutting down the service.

The live TV service launched in 2015. It came at a time when ‘cord cutting’ was beginning to hit its peak with services such as Sling TV as well as services like Hulu and YouTube getting their own live service add-ons. The popular PS4 was the launching pad for the service, though it did eventually move onto other platforms such as Roku and Apple TV.

Sony confirmed via their official blog that Vue will be shut down near the beginning of next year on January 30th. While Vue will be discontinued, PlayStation Store will still have movies and TV shows that you can purchase individually. As of now, there’s no other alternative to Vue on PlayStation platforms.
