Pokemon GO Apple Watch Support Coming Soon, Developer Confirms

Hopefully soon, at any rate.

Pokemon GO, the most successful mobile game of all time, is still going to be supporting the Apple Watch, developers Niantic confirmed on Twitter. Apple Watch compatibility for the game was announced at a conference in September, but things have gone entirely quiet on that front since- this had started to lead to rumors that the Apple Watch app for the game was cancelled.

Pokemon Go for Apple Watch is coming soon. Stay tuned,” Niantic posted on Twitter, possibly in response to all the news story about this percolating at the moment.

Pokemon GO currently does not support any smartwatch, although it does have its own smartwatch-esque accessory, Pokemon GO Plus. Pokemon GO Plus makes it so that the player does not have to have the app open on their phone at all times to know when there are Pokemon around to be captured- instead, the device will notify them when there are any Pokemon that spawn around the player and can be caught. The Apple Watch app will not replicate this functionality, but it should be more convenient than having the game open all the time anyway.
