Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire, the latest installments in Nintendo and Game Freak’s long running Pokemon series, and remakes of the cult classic third generation, are out worldwide now, and they are massive hits, having sold 7.7 million copies worldwide already. For reference, this sales performance is faster than the sales performance of Pokemon X and Y last year, and is also faster than any other title this year, including heavyweights such as Watch Dogs, Destiny, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Mario Kart 8, and the Grand Theft Auto V re-release.
Sales of the game were especially strong in Europe, a territory which seems to have flocked to the newest games, with total sales representing a 135% increase over last year’s Pokemon X and Y.
Amazingly enough, this probably isn’t even the end of it- the game is only two weeks out from its launch, and we can probably expect some high numbers posted during the holiday season. If this keeps up, the games may end up selling more than even Pokemon X and Y (13.5 million units sold so far, a year out from their release), which would be surprising, since those were original entries, while OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire, for all their feats, are still remakes; and even the original Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, which have lifetime sales of 16.5 million units.
