Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Guide – All Evolution Items, and How to Evolve Pokemon

Confused about how to evolve an Eevee into Umbreon or Gimmighoul into Gholdengo? Check out all the Evolution requirements here.

Despite being the third major title in the series over the past year, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been a massive hit for the Nintendo Switch with over 10 million units sold in just three days worldwide. While there are many returning players, a fair number would also be new to the series and learning about mechanics like Evolution.

Evolution is pretty straightforward. As your Pokemon levels, it can evolve into a different form, increasing its stats and learning new moves. Not all Evolutions are created equal, nor do they require simply leveling up in Scarlet and Violet. Let’s take at the trickier Evolution requirements and how to fulfill them.

  • Gimmighoul – To evolve into Gholdengo, you must find 999 Gimmighoul Coins. This is done by capturing or beating Gimmighoul in Chest form, finding and clicking on a Gimminghoul in Roaming form, checking Shinies on the ground, and so on.
  • Finizen – To evolve it into Palafin, you must level Finizen to 38 while in Union Circle co-op with a friend.
  • Charcadet – Evolves into Armarouge when given the Auspicious Armor, exclusive to Pokemon Scarlet. The armor is obtained by speaking to a man in Zapapico who’s standing in the middle of town. You need to trade him ten Bronzor Fragments found by defeating or capturing Bronzor. In Pokemon Violet, it evolves into Ceruledge when given the Malicious Armor. The armor is obtained by speaking to the same man in Zapapico who requires ten Sinistea Chips gained by catching or defeating Sinistea.
