Pokemon Sword and Shield Set New Famitsu Sales Record

The longest a game has been on #1 in the Famitsu sales charts.

In Famitsu’s recently released weekly charts for video game software and hardware sales in Japan, Pokemon Sword and Shield were revealed to be once again on top of the software charts, which is a position they have held since their launch in November.

In fact, as pointed out by Pokemon-Matome.net, Pokemon Sword and Shield have been on top of Famitsu sales charts for nine weeks in a row, which is a record for how long a game’s held the top spot at a stretch. Sword and Shield break a record that was previously held by Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, which were on top of charts for eight consecutive weeks in 2006. Meanwhile, following its launch in December 2018, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate held the top spot for five consecutive weeks.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are out now for the Nintendo Switch- read our review through here. Nintendo recently announced an expansion pass for the RPG duo, which will contain two expansion packs, with The Isle of Armor out in June 2020, and The Crown Tundra arriving in Fall 2020. Both expansions will bring new story content, new Pokemon new legendaries, new customization items, version-exclusive content, and more- it’s quite likely, then, that Pokemon Sword and Shield will continue selling well for some time to come.
