Sony has just quietly launched a brand new update for the PS4, firmware update 5.53, which clocks in at around 440MB. As it turns out, and as I am sure you can guess from the file size, there is a reason they were so quiet about it—this update does absolutely nothing. Yes, that’s right, folks, the system update is one of those famed, vaunted “stability” updates.
“This system software update improves system performance” is all the patch notes for it say. It is possible that the update is being used to patch up exploits in the system, especially since the PS4 hacking community has made a lot of headway into getting access to the system in recent weeks and months.
Nevertheless, might as well go and download it. Improved stability and system performance ahead of God of War doesn’t sound like a bad thing to have on hand, now, does it?
