PS4 Firmware Update 8.50 Beta Is Starting To Roll Out

The update will see some tweaks and will remove communities.

While Sony’s PS5 is the new hot thing on the market, for many years people will still be playing on the PS4, if for no other reason than it looking like stock issues for the new machine is going to continue for a good while. But there’s also a simple fact that many people won’t upgrade for awhile. Hence why Sony will continue to update it, and now we have a peek at what to expect for the next firmware update.

As reported by MP1st, it seems select users are getting emails that invite them to the current firmware update beta. Listed as 8.50, it will include several tweaks, such as turning on/off notifications for each group your part of. Probably the biggest thing that jumps out, however, is that they are seeming removing communities entirely. That feature was also not brought over to the PS5, so it sounds like it’s getting the axe.

The PS4 8.50 beta is rolling out now, so check your emails. No word on when the final version will release, only sometime in Spring of this year.

Main Features in This System Software Beta

  • In messages, you can now turn notifications on/off for each of the groups you’re in. On the group screen, open then options menu and select “Turn Notifications Off”.

Other Updates Features

  • On the game session screen, you can now use the “Request to Join” button to ask the session leader to join their game. The session leader can then send you an invite to join the game session.
  • When playing a game you’ve hidden, other players will no longer see you play it.
  • Communities are no longer available.
