PS4 Launch Helps Spur PS Vita Sales

The handheld's sales were up 65 percent within the PS4's launch week.

The PlayStation 4 was more than just the biggest console launch in history, selling 2.1 million units as of early December worldwide. It also helped spur sales for the PlayStation Vita, according to MCV. The handheld apparently saw an increase of 68 percent in sales within the PS4’s launch week, increasing 65 percent more in the week following.

Sony senior product manager Ben Law stated that, “PS Vita sales wise we are continuing to see strong week-on-week growth since our latest campaign kicked in. The new TV advert went live this week and we’ve already seen amazing feedback from PS4 owners on the Remote Play feature, and the success of Tearaway highlights what an great proposition PS Vita is, either as a stand-alone device or as the perfect companion to PS4.”

Whether consumers actually picked it up for Remote Play or not, the Vita has been seeing better numbers worldwide since the PS4’s launch. It’s still not enough to catch up to the Nintendo 3DS XL but it’s getting there. What are your thoughts? Let us know below.
