PS4 NEO’s Absent at E3 Due to Sony Focusing on Games

Sony to "demonstrate it properly" when "we can show it properly."

Sony confirmed the existence of the PlayStation 4 NEO last week but also revealed that the upgraded console wouldn’t be at E3 2016. With Microsoft announcing the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio, the latter dwarfing the NEO’s rumoured specs, Sony global head of marketing and sales Jim Ryan discussed why PS4 NEO wasn’t ultimately showcased.

Speaking to MCVUK, Ryan said “We had such a strong and, I’d say, pure story about games. I think it is a legitimate comment – about only just getting going on the games side of things on PS4. I think that needed to be addressed and by focusing exclusively on the games last night, hopefully we have laid that to bogey to rest.”

The company did offer new information on NEO since then, including Andrew House commenting on titles looking “an awful lot prettier”. Sony will showcase the console properly but only when it’s ready according to Ryan.

“We did disclose some high level principles…for the thing we call codename Neo. In terms of the very public articulation of it on a stage, we really want to be ready and be able to demonstrate it properly and all of that. So we will do that when we are ready, when we can show it properly.”
