Sony Computer Entertainment did a bit of showing off during their presentation at CEDEC in Japan when they revealed the features of the PS4 SDK 2.0 which brings a huge array of interesting new opportunities to game developers thanks to some new tech.
A brief summary shall have to suffice as this goes on for quite some time, so here goes. Added support for the Shareplay, Themes, Share Factory and YouTube Upload features have been introduced. Improved image recognition for distance generation has been added under libDepth which makes use of the PlayStation Camera, this comes with improved darkness capabilities. Improved GPU processing for the aforementioned linDepth. A variety of libDepth supported Camera UI features including Handtracking and Facial Recognition along Dynamic Lighting in Augmented Reality spaces has been implemented and improved.
New Physics Solutions help optimize the simulation of ongoing physics and GPU Physics Simulation shows a comparison of 1000 rigid body simulations via CPU vs 10,000 rigid body simulations via GPU at higher performance. Developers now have access to the speech recognition library as well which has been tweaked and improved to define the words you use as “Grammar”.
