PS4 Sells 18.5 Million Units Worldwide Till Date

More than 4.1 million units sold during the holiday season.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 has sold 18.5 million units worldwide according to a recent announcement by PlayStation Japan (courtesy of Gematsu). These are sales as of January 4th and it seems that 4.1 million units were shifted during the 2014 Holiday season.

Sony also revealed that PlayStation Plus subscriptions are now at 10.9 million units. Whether you’re a fan of Sony or not, there’s no denying that these are some highly impressive figures. In fact, during its CES 2015 keynote, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai stated: “I’m liking those numbers. This is a remarkable success for this next generation console, and, actually, exceeding the rate of adoption of any other PlayStation platform [to date].”

This certainly puts other services like PlayStation Now into perspective. When the PS4 has sold so many units despite the paucity of exclusives in 2014, who’s to say that several millions of consumers won’t jump on PlayStation Now’s All Access subscription when it arrives later next week? Regardless, let us know what you think of the PS4’s success in the comments.
