It’s the road to the next generation of consoles and companies like Microsoft are reporting an 11 percent drop in game sales and revenue. Sony has shared its own estimate of cumulative sell-through for first party and third party titles on PS4 worldwide till date. The number has increased from 1.150 billion units as of January 7th 2020 to 1.181 billion units as of January 31st 2020.
That’s a total increase of 31 million units. Last year’s increase around the same period was about 38 million units (going from 876 million on January 8th 2019 to 924 million on January 31st 2020). There’s a drop but only slightly so. Overall, in the past 12 months, 257 million estimated software units have been sold.
Sony noted that these figures were, “Actual figures of PS4 software titles sold through retailers and PlayStation Store. Actual figures are estimated figures based on SIE research.” It also noted that add-on contents weren’t included in the count. With so many big titles coming out this year, the PS4 still has a lot going for it. The PS5 releases later this year in the holiday season.
