Given the extreme supply constraints the Nintendo Switch has been facing for the last few weeks, the PS4 has had a relatively easy time of things in Japan, where it has been topping the hardware charts for about a month now. Credit to it, too- its own sales have gone up, presumably in anticipation of some big name heavy hitters that are coming up for it, including Dragon Quest 11.
And so, this week, again, the PS4 ended up topping the charts in Japan, with almost 30,000 units sold. Surprisingly enough, Switch sales rose too, though only very slightly- with 26,000 units sold, it was the second highest selling system in Japan last week, with the 3DS at 15,000 units bringing up the rear.
On the software front, the PS4 exclusive Gundam Versus topped charts, with 121,000 units sold; Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and ARMS both rounded out the top three.
If things seem quiet for now, that’s because they are- ahead of the launch of Splatoon 2 and Dragon Quest 11 later this month, which should lead to some excitement, it is very clear that Japan is currently in the lull before the storm.
