PS4 Was The Highest Selling Console In The US In December

Sony ends the year on a high note.

Nintendo Switch’s conference wasn’t the only bit of big news we got yesterday- we also got the preliminary NPD report that confirmed that the PS4 had indeed managed to come in first in the United States for the second month straight, meaning Sony managed to score an overall victory in the Holiday Season.

That said, in spite of this victory, it was a muted occasion for them- as Microsoft themselves pointed out in statement they released, PS4 sales slid year on year- the launch of the PS4 Pro, PS4 Slim, and the PlayStation VR was not enough to counter a decline in sales. Meanwhile, for the sum total of the second half of 2016, it appears as though Microsoft managed to outsell PS4 with the Xbox One in the US- presumably on the back of exciting games like Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3, as well as the launch of the excellent Xbox One S.

We’ll get the full NPD report, including software charts, on January 19, so stay tuned to GamingBolt for that.
