When it comes to the next generation consoles, people love their numbers. It’s often the first pile of dung to be thrown in the console wars, as one system will undoubtedly have a few more numbers than the other in some form of fashion, from the SSD to maybe all those TFLOPs people love to go on and on about. But you know a number you don’t hear much about? The number of fans a system will have.
A new patent was discovered for Sony’s PS5 devkit, and it’s quite something. You can see it through here, or see the patent itself below. One thing that jumps out is that it has 6 total fans, three on each side. Along with that, naturally, the thing has multiple ventilation points. There’s also what seems to be a much larger than typical heatsink on the left side.
Now, a few things to note here. First and foremost, this patent is for the PS5 devkit, so it may not reflect the actual retail console itself. And also, as we often point out when these patents emerge, companies file and refile patents all the time that don’t amount to anything, so this may not even reflect the actual devkits themselves.
Hopefully, we’ll get to see the actual PlayStation 5 at Sony’s upcoming event.
