The next generation of consoles are coming (and you may have to pay pretty penny for them), and each platform owner feels like they’re going their own way a bit. But console warriors will always be console warring no matter what, and furious typing will come at which box is the best box with howls and screams drowned out from keyboard clicks. Who will sell the most? Well, it’s impossible to tell yet, but one analyst thinks Sony will be off to one good start.
Japanese analyst Hideki Yasuda of Osaka firm Ace Research Institute predicted that Sony would move over 6 million PS5 units by March 31st, 2021. Considering the system is slated to launch this holiday, that would be quite the jump start to Sony’s next console. Yasuda goes on to say it’ll sell up to 15 million units the following year (thanks to Twinfinite for translations).
It’s probably worth pointing out this analysis came with the coronavirus outbreak was just getting started. There’s been speculation the outbreak could affect the launch of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X with delays due to shortages, though no official announcements have been made. Sony came out on top, undoubtedly, this generation, so let’s see if they can do a repeat.
