Earlier this year, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson claimed in a report that Sony was working on PS5 Pro, and that the more powerful variant of the company’s current-gen console was targeting a Holiday 2024 launch. In another new report, Henderson has provided more brief details on how the console’s production is moving behind the scenes.
After reiterating that a PS5 Pro is in currently in the works “with a 100% degree of certainty”, the report goes on to state that prototype development kits of the console will be sent to first party PlayStation studios within the next couple of months, while third party developers will be receiving them by the end of this year.
Previous reports have claimed that Sony has other PlayStation hardware in the works s well, including a new PS5 model with detachable disc drive that’s allegedly due out in September, and a new remote play handheld device. When any of this new hardware will be unveiled remains to be seen, but some have speculated that Sony could have announcements planned for its rumoured upcoming PlayStation Showcase event.
Recently, Sony confirmed that the PS5 has shipped 38.4 million units as of the end of March, with the company aiming to ship another 25 million units before April 2024.
