There have been rumors going around about the release of a PS5 for some time now, and it looks like the next-generation of consoles will be releasing not too far off in the future. PlayStation’s CEO John Kodera has stated that the PS4 is in the final stage of its life cycle.
During Sony’s Investor Relations Day 2018, John Kodera stated, “PS4 is entering the final phase of its life cycle, which would have a negative impact to the unit, but recurring revenue via membership services etc should cushion some of that.” He also stated that there are plans to release more first-party exclusives for the console and “beefing up first-party titles” which means not only releasing new IPs but also franchising these properly and refreshing IPs that have already been released.
He also stated that PS4 sales may slow down till March 2021 but the brand will grow in the future. This is a pretty strong hint that the next-gen PlayStation or PS5 will be launching sometime in late 2020/2021.
There’s certainly a lot to be excited for with regards to the future of PlayStation and hopefully, we will continue to see some exceptional games for the PlayStation consoles.
